Are you certain that the problem is mp3 support?  Have you tried anything 
else, like ogg files?  It might help to clarify the problem if you run xmms 
from a command line and see what errors it produces when you try to import 
your mp3 file.  Assuming your issue is mp3 support....

 You could try searching for something like 'xmms-mp3' in Yast.  Also, I've 
read that xmms compiled from source will give you mp3 support without having 
to download plugins.

This is second-hand information (i don't use xmms), so I can't say for sure if 
it works or not.  Best bet would be to do what I just did and search through 
some suse forums and see what they say on the topic. ;-)
