The 533w should certainly be able to boot from CD, especially of
you've moved the CDROM to the top of the boot list. I don't know what
the "+" signifies...maybe valid/mountable media detected and present?

Do you have another bootable CD, like the Windows XP installation
disk, to test the startup sequence with?

Next question, did you prepare the Linux CD correctly? Is the CD
actually bootable? In other words, did you use a program such as Nero
Express or Ashampoo Burn Commander to open the .iso file and burn it
to the disk, or did you just copy the .iso file itself to the disk?

Are you getting any indications that the system is even *trying* the
CD, or is it just going straight to WinXP bootup?

If you really can't get BIOS to cooperate and start from the CD, you
can apply the solution suggested here:

Note that some versions of Linux just don't work with certain
hardware, due to graphics incompatibilities. I have particularily
bad luck getting LiveCD's (that are KNOWN to work on other systems) to
boot on older Dell Optiplex systems. When all else fails, try a
different Linux ;)
