Linux won't even notice. But seriously, most of the distro listed here will run smoothly with 512. Hold off on the upgrade unless you become really convinced you need it, unless you've got no better use for that memory stick. Just about any Linux install will sure as hell run faster than any flavor of Windoze possibly could with just 512.
