Linux Magazine today has an article about Redo, an interesting tool that is run
from a bootable CD or USB key. It's a Linux-based bootable OS in its own right,
so it is run separately from your operating systems. However, it appears to
have a very nice compression ratio for making very small backups that can be
restored in whole or in part at need.

It also works with both Windows and Linux partitions, so it is simple to use on
dual-boot systems--and can even back up removable media attached to the system,
as well as doing various system repair functions.
