Okay. Then got to the Settings for your VM in VirtualBox and go to the usb tab and make sure that Enable USB Controller is checked. If that is the case then you should be able to control usb devices from the running VM by checking then either on the bottom right of the Status bar or by Devices on the top menu, USB Devices. Once checked they will be available in your guest OS and not in the host OS. The exception to this would be something that would not show because you do not have a Linux driver for the host so it can't be made available in the guest. I can't think of an example of this because Linux has so many drivers now, but theoretically it is possible.
