If you are still following this thread, Tony, I am including the
relevant sections of my xorg.conf file that I had modified to get the
monitor resolution to display correctly (below). Digging around, it
doesn't look like I saved a backup copy, so I'm not sure all of what
was changed from the original. However, I do know that the section
"subsection "Display"" was not present before I made changes. This
was for an older Toshiba Laptop, and the Driver (device) is correctly
labeled below. That would need to be whatever your device is... As
for the rest, I was just following examples I had found in forums,
without any real clue what I was doing. The important thing, I
assume, is that it seemed to work well after I was done.

Section "Monitor"
        Identifier "Configured Monitor"
        HorizSync 28-51
        VertRefresh 48-60
EndSection

Section "Screen"
        Identifier "Default Screen"
        Monitor "Configured Monitor"
        Device "Trident Microsystems Cyberblade XPAi1"
Subsection "Display"
        Depth 16
        Modes "1024X768"
EndSubsection
EndSection

This doesn't actually show anything about modeline, so might not have
been that after all... Modeline info still looks like it is worth
reading into...
