So far I haven't found blob stripping all that big of an issue. I usually build a custom kernel anyways. Managing custom kernels is one place where I do appreciate package management too. If a distribution doesn't offer a particular version of a desktop environment it may not always be easy. So far I haven't bit the bullet downgrading KDE on my Squeeze box yet. I'm looking into it some now though. I'm thinking I might be able to get the deb source packages for Lenny and build them on my Squeeze box.
