it does happen. The BIOS on the Intel L440GX motherboards writes to flash
every time you boot. That's how we figured out the flash write sequence.

The other issue -- we found that on the ASUS CUA the SST28SF040 would not
work, we had to use 39SF040 from some other vendor. What's the difference,
28 to 39? not sure. There also seemed to be speed issues.
