I googled around and read a bit about the OpenFirmware device tree,
but I'm still a bit clueless.

Can you briefly summarize the purpose of the OpenFirmware device tree?
How does/would Linux use the information in the tree? Does it replace
or supplement things like the MP table, IRQ routing table, ACPI
tables, etc.?
