Brian, make sure you enable serial console, enable system console on
serial console, DISABLE vga console, which will DISABLE fbdev, etc. 

right now, the fbdev console won't come up until linux is well along in
boot, so if things are going wrong it is hard to tell. 

At some point, we need the console to come up earlier, but it's harder
than you might think. 

This will make figuring things out easier. Be sure to set the baud rate
for serial console on Linux.
