Hello from Gregg C Levine normally with Jedi Knight Computers
A POST card is used to debug the behavior of suspect PCs. The term
POST, means Power On Self Test, and comes from the original IBM
specifications for the BIOS. It consists of specialized tests that the
machine will use to test itself to decide if it will start up. A POST
card will display those codes so that the designer, or repair
specialist can decide what is wrong, and what else to do to repair, or
replace anything, or why the machine is not correctly starting up.
Some machines will also generate tones, that are audible via the
speaker, inside the unit, and some machines actually contain a display
to display those codes, so that the human will have some idea of that
behavior. But that accessory only exists if the designer added it, in
the first place. I hope I have made myself clear.
