mtd 2.2.17

Can someone remind me of how to get mtd up on 2.2.17. I have applied the
patch for 2.2.17 found at infradead.org, but am not sure what to do next
... cvs update shows that the old mtd/kernel directory is kaput, so I'm at
a loss for what to do.
