Hello

Ollie Lho told me to contact you on a problem I and many others have with
SiS630 based laptops running under Linux.

The problem is that neither the Linux kernel framebuffer driver
(sisfb) nor SiS FB Lite, nor any SiS X server initialize the LCD
display correctly. I checked back with the Xpert mailing list
and found that many people have that problem:

When the X server tried to switch graphics mode the LCD starts to
"glow". That is it turns from black to white and shows really interesting
patterns. External monitor works perfectly though.
With the kernel fb drivers the LCD just turns black at startup. Again
external monitor works fine.

The common solution to this problem is to install a kernel vesafb driver
and run X via the framebuffer server. The vesa bios initializes the LCD
correct. There is also a hacked XF 4.0.x sis driver which relies on
vesafb to do the mode switching and only provides acceleration.

But rather we'd have a working sis driver for kernel fb and X. So, can
you help with this? Should I provide any additional information or
do you have any idea?

Richard
