Another data point - my main machine has *not* gone down even once since 
I started using a UPS.  I used to blame the occasional crashes on Windows
but since reliability has improved (perfect so far) with the UPS, I think
the problem may well have been power.

Not conclusive - but maybe we have a common theme here :).

This is a 1.2Ghz Athlon on an Abit KT7A-RAID motherboard.
