yes and no. linuxBIOS tends to program SDRAM "correctly", which has
revealed bugs on some motherboards. The BIOS for the motherboard knows
the bugs and will run SDRAM slow if need be. But LinuxBIOS has had bugs
too, so that could be the problem .

2.4.17. Everything before that had one problem or another. .17 has been
pretty good to us.
