I'm
running RH 4.2 and linuxconf 1.10r27 on several boxes whose primary function is
a web server. On these boxes, it is common to have over 600 IP addresses for use
with the virtual web roots. These machines literally take over 30 minutes to
boot up due to the insistance of linuxconf to check for a 0 return status, etc.,
when it inserts the IP addresses using ifconfig one by one. By contrast, a
sysinit script type start up comes up in next to no time.
My
understanding is that RH 5.1 gives control over the boot process back to the OS.
Is this true? If so, will linuxconf still have the ability to do whatever it
needs to do in order to handle that number of IP addresses?
tia!
