What's happening?

This is not a real error it's just the case that syslogd returns a return
code <>0 because...let me remember...it is killing it's first instance.
That's why linuxconf complains about.

What can be done?

First, you can just ignore it.
Second, you can replace or patch syslogd to return the correct status
code. Have a lock at ftp://ftp.solucorp.qc.ca/pub/linuxconf/devel/patches/
You can either download an already patched binary version of syslogd and
copy it over your existing copy or you can do the patching and compiling
yourself.
