Here is the answer I supplied for the new faq at
http://www.fl.priv.at/cgi-faq/faqw.py?req=home

Since someone else on this list had the same problem as I, I decided
that made it a faq.

6.2. remadmin gives an error when I start up

Question: I have redhat 5.1 and I'm trying to use linuxconf. It used
to work okay in graphics mode, but now whenever I try it says:

"remadmin (GUI frontend) exiting abnormaly"

I upgraded to the latest rpm from redhat and the problem still exists.

Answer: Did you upgrade your gnome libraries?

Do this:

# ldd /usr/bin/gnome-linuxconf

# /usr/bin/gnome-linuxconf localhost

# /bin/remadmin

You will get an error like:

/usr/bin/gnome-linuxconf: error in loading shared libraries

/usr/lib/libgnomeui.so.0: undefined symbol: GTK_TYPE_GDK_COLOR

This is presumably caused by upgrading the gnome libraries. I can't
find any new version of gnome-linuxconf, so instead delete
gnome-linuxconf and install the latest version of linuxconf-gui.

This worked for me. (Michael Hirsch, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> acting
on suggestions from Michael K. Johnson and Jacques Gelinas.)
