You could snag the source for autorpm and have a look at it, since it
does basicaly everything you are looking for, just without being part of
the central linuxconf menu system.
Adding the dependencies check would be a great addition to this. If
autorpm fails it just moves the file to end of the que to see if the
deps are solved with another rpm. Actualy parsing out the rpm deps and
adding those rpm's would be a real plus.
With autorpm you can set differnt auth levels to ftp dirs ( or local
dirs ) so that anything in an update dir let's say - gets updated
nightly if it's new - thus keeping up with most of the errata - save
non-rpm errata workarounds.
Then anything in contrib dirs just gets reported as new - since often
contrib rpm's arn't very good and in some cases break more than they
solve :)
