I too have the same problem with an RH 5.0 box (compiled 2.0.35). I get the net
without Linuxconf but only lo with Linuxconf. I tracked down and trashed all
Linuxconf files and reinstalled. I then get the Welcome to Linuxconf screen
first time so I know it is a fresh install.

One thing I had done was to swap eth0 & eth1. Eth0 is now the private side
interface. Should I go back? Without Linuxconf I do get error mesages that
don't seem to get logged but the net is working fine.
