rpm -e gecko 

may help the text mode interface a lot.

I can't speak to the usermenu stuff, I've not tried it yet.  But I
would suggest getting the text mode interface working before doing
much more experimenting... else you are trying new things out on a
setup you already *know* has a problem of some sort.
