Hello Clark
I will do so right away! When you run
mntcd do you place any arguments after it or do you edit the /etc/fstab file? I
think umntcd works just fine. I went into startx and used the disk utility and
mounted the cdrom. then in the shell I used /cdrom/umntcdrom and it worked
fine.
Also do you use the user,noauto,ro,exec,0,0
option, and how might I do a directory of a CD? I received 4 cdrom disk(s) with
my RedHat Kit and would like to know what else is there as the boot disk never
mentioned, nor ask for them.
They are:
Disk 1 (The Op. System
Disk 2 ?
Disk 3 SSL Apache
Disk 4 Word Perfect 7.0 and a bunch of other stuff
like a DB program. I bet these are crippeled or demos but it would still be nice
to look at them.
Thanks a million for all your great help. I have
had several users inquire about the mntcdrom and umntcdrom. I hope it was
OK but I copied your letter in- total as per their request. If I did wrong
please tell me and I will stop, and repair what damage I have done. If it's ok
please also advise as you seem to have a much better handle on this than anyone
else I have conversed with.
Thanks
Martin

Subject: [linuxconf] Re: New UserMove them to the absolute root directory. You will have to change to the /cdrom directory to mount or dismount the other way.You want those two files to be at the # / level.so use the "cp" command to copy the files from /cdrom to / and then delete them from /cdrom.The colors make it really easy to tell what's going on in your system. It may be easier for you to simply use Pico to create new files from the root level and then delete the ones from /cdromIf you make new files, be sure to use "chmod 755 <filename>"-----Original Message-----

Subject: [linuxconf] Re: New UserOh My!Compaq is hard to work with and who knows what they have done. Generally you can't change anything on a Compaq. You get what you got.com3 = cua2I'd rather have a modem on Com1.Guess you are going to do Com3DSL will work great. You can buy large bandwidth and it's fairly cheap. I can't get DSL here. Too far away from the switch house. With ISDN and compression I will have 520K of throughput which is enough to get started.I can "stack" 3 ISDN lines and then it will be time to get myself a frame relay service.Sorry I can't help you more.
