Edit /etc/named.boot and add the line: options query-log
This will solve your problem.
named -q is no longer used and is more difficult to support due to how
named is started now days.

You could edit /etc/rc.d/init.d/named and add the -q option to the
daemon named start section but I do not advise you do this.

Besides,
upgrading will most likely replace /etc/rc.d/init.d/named where as you
will most likely keep your older /etc/named.boot file.
