Since RedHat 5.0 pppd has that problem when you type 'w' returns a_ppp for any 
user. I discovered that problem about 1 year ago it's a RedHat problem nothing 
to deal with linuxconf. May be Jacques can tell us more since he was involved 
in resolving that issue for me.
