Well, I give up. I have idle time set to 600 in the appropriate setting. I use only the dialout module, and have the redhatppp disabled. I have diald installed, albeit not active (NTSYSV has it turned off). No matter what duraction I configure in dile time, the system regularly hangs up within minutes after detecting inactivity. Annoying? Yes. At this point, I tried a lot of different settings/configs/etc, and I'm simply giving up. It seems this setting doesn't simply want to work. This is a freshly installed RedHat 5.2 system, with nothing else, but Linuxconf updated to 1.13r13, diald rpm, and that's it.
