Yes, you have problems with your pam system. You don't need shadow
support, but you should try to upgrade your pam packages, or reinstall
them. Get the latest pam packages from redhat (if thats yoor
distribution)

You should never publish ip-based access information, someone on the
list may try to abuse it (I think linuxconf is quite safe, but you never
know), as long as you get the linuxconf startup screen in the browser
you can be shure that the ipsetup is correct, its not the problem here
