The Metro Detroit LUG is unfortunately just getting started with LDD, but
we've got machines and staff volunteered and now we're looking for a
location. Our primary target is at least one mall, but backup ideas
include computer stores and schools. One mall asked us for a proposal, and
I composed one (borrowing liberally from the SLUG press release send out
earlier). In case other groups might find such a document useful, I
provide it herewith:

The Metro Detroit Linux Users Group (MDLUG) is proud to announce Linux
Demo Day '99 in the Metro Detroit area. This one day event will be
held Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999 from 12:00pm until 5:00pm. The event is
open to the public, and it is our hope to have a session at [...]
Mall.

The show will include demonstrations of Linux as an alternative
operating system for the IBM-compatible PC, Macintosh, PowerMac and
other computing platforms; and demonstrations of available
applications for business and personal use including office suites,
graphics design programs, software and Internet development tools,
scientific applications, and multimedia games. Samples and promotional
materials provided by sponsoring corporations will be handed out as
well.

The event will require space for two or three tables, and sufficient
electrical power for approximately 8 desktop computers. A phone line
would be helpful but not necessary. Staffing, setup, teardown, and all
materials will be provided by MDLUG. Setup and teardown time is
estimated to be one half hour each. Ideally, setup would begin at
11:30am and tear down would be complete at 5:30pm.

Linux software and literature is available for sale in [...] Mall
stores such as [...]. Our demonstration will help in driving sales of
Linux merchandise, as well as helping to draw general traffic to the mall.
Our efforts for advertising will include flyers as well press releases to
local newspapers, radio and TV stations, and electronic media in the area.
Should [...] Mall choose to participate, MDLUG will be pleased to
mention [...] Mall in any and all advertising materials.
