This is the mailing list for Linux Demo Day, you are in the right place.
But it's main function is to allow the participating members to discuss
different aspects of the upcoming LDD, including sharing their ideas for demo
methods, etc.
If you want to know the date, it is Sunday September 12th thru Saturday
September 18th.
The "official day", for media purposes, is Sunday the 12th, but the demo was
extended to a whole week to accomodate those with schedule conflicts- this is a
_worldwide_ event.
You only get the "free stuff" if you are a member of a participating Linux User
Group, you can't just sign up yourself and expect to get stuff. Also, if your
group isn't on the list, it is now too late to sign up and be able to receive
anything from the sponsors, the cut-off date was Aug. 18th. This was all
announced on the website, and numerous times on this list.
However you may still sign up your group (if you are in one).
BTW, in case you don't have it, the website address is www.linuxdemo.org.
As for the Red Hat version, it is actually called a "distribution", not a
"version."
Red Hat Linux 6.0, the latest release, is a very good distribution of Linux, I
use it myself.
If you want to get it, I suggest www.cheapbytes.com or www.linuxmall.com, where
you can find almost any ditribution for a very good price ($1.89 I believe, for
only the main CD, no manuals or phone tech support or supplemental application
CDs...but you can get all that on the net, the manuals are on the CD)
Another good distribution is Caldera Linux 2.2, in this latest version they
have made a very good installation procedure, very easy to use I have heard.
Sorry if this got off track a bit, but I hope this helps.
If you need help with your installation, visit a Linux demo in your area if you
aren't involved in a LUG already (check the website, under "Participants").
Also, on IRC, you can check out channel #linuxhelp, or #redhat if you do
install Red Hat Linux.
