We have our own web server in USA and we are retailing webspace to Indian Web Designing Companies for hosting their websites. General Description: ------------------- The role of the Technical Support Programmer will be to take care of general technical support such as creating accounts on the server, and taking care of general customer doubts and problems with regards to web hosting. He will also certain complex support queries where he may have to do some research work. Since support will only take up sometime during the day, hence rest of the time will be devoted to building online database solutions in Perl and database such as MySQL for various company backoffice activities as well as external contracts. He will also be responsible for updating the website of the company with latest information in any section as given to him now and then. Besides this there will be other routine tasks involved like printing, filing, and reporting every week. Key Responsibilities: -------------------- 1. To build custom projects in Perl and MySQL for various functions on a continuous basis for the company as well as for other contracts within set deadlines 2. To reply to and attend all support email, phone, ICQ etc queries and finish of necessary support task within that working day itself 3. To update website of Company as and when needed and automate the process 4. To compile manual, FAQ and other support database for assistance of clients so that most common queries maybe answered thus - on a continuous basis 5. To promote website of company on the Internet to various Search engines on a regular basis as directed by Web Promotions Manager within deadlines as set 6. To prepare weekly reports on various support issues and programming issues after obtaining feedback from the customers 7. To design utilities to make the server more usable for the clients by providing utilities like preconfigured CGI scripts or installing additional software on the Linux server etc. 8. To administer mailing list of the company's clients which is used to send them the company newsletter and other mails regarding new packages etc 9. To administer any other mailing lists from time-to-time 10. To develop and implement ideas for any automation process which can be implemented to make any task - support, billing or marketing easier. Minimum Performance Standards: ----------------------------- All assigned duties must be completed keeping in mind the standards required for each of them as listed above Skills: ------ For above key responsibilities listed - following skill set would be appropriate 1. Internet knowledge: This is one of the main criteria. The candidate must have good knowledge of various Internet protocols, must have over a years experience with the Internet and browsing 2. Programming: Proficiency in CGI, Perl and Linux database (MySQL or others) 3. Websites: Designing - HTML, Frontpage 98; Uploading - FTP, CuteFTP etc 4. Web-servers: Apache and its configuration 5. Linux: Enough skills to allow administration of a Linux server incase of emergency. General administration will be done using various graphical interfaces (HTML based) 6. Windows: He must know his way around windows machines 7. Networking Above all you must be ready to learn a lot as we are - by reading, browsing etc - all of which will be encouraged.
