There are many reasons that could point out why the daemon died !!
a) A development kernel with the latest ppp code
b) this one I experienced .... An incorrect set of parameters passwd to pppd
which made it and the line
both unstable
For me the problem was solved using Xisp which is a GUI ... X win tool which
sets the pppd startup
paramaters automatically ... Or the latest kppp ... there are numerous other
tools which can be used to dial
out to the net
The modem also could be set to initial DTE speed to 115200 which could
possibly make the line go
unstable ... Another prob
I guess more details .. the distro .. the kernel version ...the app to dial
to the net .. would be appreciated
to get rid of the problem immediately

Yeah ... 1500 MTU is by default for ethernet interfaces
When the protocol negotiation b/w the 2 clients is done during the LCP phase
in a connect the paramaters such as DTE / DCE speed , DNS info ... packet
size et al are automatically set to a value agreeable by
both systems
A default MTU of 576 bytes is said to be the correct parameter ...
Windows PC's by default try to negotiate with 576 sometimes even for a
simple FTP , TELNET connect across an ethernet as well !!! Hence FTP/TELNET
from Linux to Windows may go much slower than FTP/TELNEt from windows to
linux , as linux goes to 1500 MTU straight

The address by which your system (specifically that interface) can be

The name of this host (interface)

vsnl.net.in ...... get it ???

The Domain name server (DNS) ip

Sendmail tries a reverse DNS lookup by default ... If you don't have a DNS
sendmail times out after 90 Sec and then moves ahead .... set up a caching
names server or point your system to use a DNS which is available

Postgres is installed if you select it during the installation procedure..
The best way to understand the software is first to read the accompanying
README
then the INSTALL ... if possible CHANGES ...
check in /usr/doc/postgres* for the docs
>6) Also one more thing how can we enable remote login of root, which

there is a file in /etc
namely securetty which mentions which terminals root is allowed to login
Add ttyp* to it and that should solve your problem

Purchasing is worth it !!!!!
Hey i'm not a person from CHIP !!!
Since I haven't used it , can't really comment on it
Jace from chip .. would be the best person to answer that !!!
