This was a mail from Mike .. the person who maintains samba
Win95 had a bug workaround which reverses or shifts the bits in the
timestamp to the right nine times
to prevent corruption in the files .... If this option is not set then the
shares accessed by samba will have files having garbage in their timestamps
However microsoft has fixed the bugs in Win98 ,NT hence if the option is set
during kernel compilation it cannot be overriden by the mount option ....
See the docs
I guess if you want to mount win95 shares ... recompile kernel without the
option Win95 workaround
( RH 6.0 CD has a kernel with this option enabled by default)
Mount win95 drives with smbmount and the flags 3755 where 755 are the
regular protection mask security measures and the 3 stands for the sum of 3
option .. Not the exact words
1) Directory access
2) Win95 bug workaround
3) .. Don't remember
Sum of the required options =3 hence this will take care of win95 systems ,
for the remaining systems
mount normally
Prevents timestamp corruption
Whewww ... long mail .... but still informative
