Hi guys,
I apologize for not being able to respond to the feedback that were
recieved for my queries on LILO and Sound Configuration. Well things are
working better now, although I couldn't configure sound. But not worried
about that much (keeps on giving me message that 'device is busy' ???)
I have still not become that much familiar with Linux, but trying.

As I had said earlier, I have a lot many questions to ask, that I had
saved for the meet, which unfortunately could not be held. So, I thought
I'll put it up on the ML. But while composing this mail, I found that
these questions are so general that any newbie to Linux would like to ask.
So, I thought that there must be a manual or document which can be
referred by a user to get around the basics of Linux. Especially if the
user is not familiar with the Unix environment. Secondly, most new users
to Linux are from the DOS/Windows background, hence to understand how
things work in Linux as against DOS must be learnt. For example,
in DOS, one knows how paths are set, which files are executables, how to
manage RAM, in short how to control the system environment. But a new user to
Linux doesn't know how these things are done. For example, I not aware
of how paths are set, or which type of files are executables, or which
are system files, etc. in Linux.

I found a user's guide at http://metalab.../LDP/... and have yet to go
through it. But in the mean time I just thought that shouldn't a help
document be made wherein the most needed and frequently used command in Linux
are explained and simplified. I repeat, I am yet to see the user's guide
at the above site, so it is possible that what I am suggesting may be
available there or for that matter elsewhere. (If there is some other
URL, then please let me know). This will help in attracting more users
to Linux. While talking to some of my friends, I found the major
deterrent in them for using Linux was that they didn't know how to move
around in Linux. It is not they are not ready to work on it but they
want some base to start with. I hope I am not sounding hyper. Will
appreciate all types of responses.

(If someone is interested in this assignment, I am ready to help)

P.S.
An offbeat question. In April'99 PCQ, they had given a Shell Account
enhancer called WAC. I tried, but couldn't install it. Keeps on giving
errors on missing files during installation. Anybody tried installing
it ? Anyone know of any such other Shell account enhancers. I want to use
it for my POP3 and SMTP.
