CD-ROM on Parallel port

How does one use CD-ROM on Parallel Port with Linux ?
With DOS and  Window$ it can be used with Shuttel
Technology.
And I have still not been able to get a 1024 x 768
resolution, although while configurating the X windows
it shows that
The Xwindows will work on 1024 x 768 resolution.
Please Help.
