Lilo will not work if the number of cylenders is larger thatn 1024.
However you can have a small /boot partition in the initial cylenders and
can have other partitions elsewhere on the harddisk. Except for the lilo,
you may not have any problems while running linux.
In your case try solving the problem by installing lilo on the /dev/hda
and not not /dev/hdb. This may solve the problem. If it does not solve
then you may follow repartitioning advice.
