If u use fips properly there should be no problem
Take a backup on a second HDD that which i guess you can borrow
First reduce your pagefiles to minimal and then defragment your HDD
Check using the defragmenter wheather the data is contiguous .. (things were
easier in the Dos days)
and create a new partition of xyz megabytes or xyz cylinders / sectors
I had used fips in the slakware days .. Of course with an Hdd backup
Use it properly and it should not mess up
Partition magic .. never used it so no comments
