This is what you need to need to do for LINUX to
successfully start the X-Server :
1. Edit the file : /etc/X11/XF86Config.
2. Find HorizSync.
3. Against the text "HorizSync", place the values
approporiate for your monitor. In my case, I placed 30 - 55.
4. Find VertRefresh.
5. Against the text "VertRefresh", place the values
appropiate for your monitor. In my case, I placed 58 - 120.
6. Look for the "Device" Section.
7. Therein, insert the following lines :
VideoRam 4096 (4096 is the video RAM in my PC)
Option "no_accel"
Option "fifo_moderate"
Option "no_bitblt"
Clocks 25.175 - 65.0 (Again, these are values
unique to my monitor).
8. Type startx at the LINUX prompt and after a while,
GNOME (or KDE or whatever) will start.
This file uses # as the first char in a line to indicate a
comment line. In most cases, while specifying the Options,
all you may have to do is to just remove the #.
Do get back if you face any more problems.
Thank You,
Sincerely,
