If you want to protect your data, you could also use FIPS to split the
partition.  First defrag your drive, then run FIPS on it.  Select which
drive, and how much space you want to split it into.
Finally, you will have to format the new partition.
The old partition stays intact.
One problem is that the cluster size does not change, so if you had 64KB
clusters on your 4 GB HDD, you will now have 64KB clusters on your 2 GB
partition.
