Yo. As a result of ignorance on the part of the Romans and Europeans
early in the AD calendar, there was no year zero AD (or BC for that
matter).
The absence of a year zero means we effectively start counting years from
one onwards. ie the 1st year AD *ended* on Dec 31 0001 (or the equivalent
of the last day of that year).
Similarly, the 1st century *ended* on Dec 31 0100 and the second century
*started* on 1st Jan 0101
The 2nd millenium ends on Dec 31 2000 and the 3rd millenium starts on 1st
Jan 2001. (Just add 2000 to 1 - the first year AD).
Therefore, I think it is a bit too early to plan for the millenium
meeting.
Let's instead decide when to have the next meeting.
Philip
PS: In case you were wondering, there was no year zero because the
concept of zero had not yet reached the western world. It was only here in
India thatthe concept of zero was in widespread use. At the time of
preparation of the Gregorian calendar, zero had reached Arabia, but not
Europe.
