Regarding the cybercafe thingy, what I think is this:
1. We figure out which packages would be required by a cafe. There
shouldn't be too many.
2. What kernel options are required. This includes hardware support and
networking options.
3. Are we going to have linux clients and server or just a linux server?
If we have both, we will have to decide on separate configurations for
each type.
4. Once we have decided all this, it should not be hard to build a really
small distribution that contains only these options.
We get the kernel sources and the required packages, and use simple shell
scripts to compile and install them. gcc and a default kernel with only
basic (hard-disk, CD-ROM, 386 etc.) support will be required to run the
installation.
I am not sure how we can go about probing hardware to detect which kernel
modules need to be installed, but we can first try out hand configuring,
and then figure out probing.
What do you'll think?
