Having two network cards is the same as having one network card and one
modem. The requirement is not two network cards, but two network
interfaces. Basically, two devices that have different IP addresses and
are connected to different (but possibly the same) networks.
Other problems with SOCKS is that ftp won't work because the server has to
open a secondary socket with the client for data transfer, and UDP in
general does not work with proxies. SOCKS 5 has something called UDP
mapping over TCP, but all clients may not be able to use this.
On further thought, we might be able to preconfigure IP forwarding to
allow only what is needed to get through. We can disable almost all
servers running, and edit the hosts.deny and hosts.allow file to block all
externally initiated connections into the network.
