1. Find out your ISP's mail-server IP number.  2. Use this as
smarthost for delivering mail via smtp: For this you have to edit
/etc/sendmail.cf.  Call your ISP and ask which should be used as mail
server.  If you cant find out, use 202.54.1.68, which bom1's
mailserver.

What I do is put the IP of the mailserver in the /etc/hosts file with
the alias mailserver, instead of inserting in the sendmail.cf file.
This is just to eliminate meddling with the sendmail files too often,
and edit /etc/hosts as when you change your mail server. 

AFAIK this will solve your problem.
