Err, it didn't seem like the original poster had linux installed anywhere.
He had Win98 / FAT32 and WinNT / NTFS

Can't use linux fdisk if he don't have it.

Better solution - Enter BIOS setup - HDD low level format.

Do they still have that option?  I found it missing on some of the new
BIOSes that I've installed.
