Simple.... VSNL simply never tells anyone.
UDP = usenet death penalty.
In December of 1999, a simultaneous UDP of VSNL and SILNET, the two main
carriers in India, was instituted for their failure to even begin to control
the usenet terrorist who calls himself "HipCrime" and who forges, cancels,
floods, and supercedes thousands of articles on a nearly daily basis in an
attempt to blackmail the entire world into doing things his way - his way
being a usenet without spam cancels. Currently, VNSL and SILET have enabled
port 119 (news)blocks on all outgoing connections from their services with
the exception of their own servers.
This is from a post on Slashdot. read it.
1. You can post to the VSNL news server and it will try to propogate its
posts ... most servers will reject them. Some get thru though..
2. VSNL has a very poor feed. They dont get half the messages ... try this
Look at VSNL's microsoft.public.something newsgroup
then use 'msnews.microsoft.com' (nntp) to read the same newsgroup; check the
number of messages not present on VSNL.
3. I use news.cis.dfn.de to post;
4. and www.talkway.com to read.
btw news.cis.dfn.de is also a http server .... visit to read about accounts
(free) and policies.
Please don't do anything stupid .. like spam a million ppl cuz then the
service will prolly be blocked for Indian users and everybody.. me included
looses out.
