About the zombie thread:
Ur from what I know ... A zombie is already dead. It's just waiting for the
OS to collect certain stats, before it will be removed from the proc list.
The process table has no transitions that start at the zobie state.
So I suppose u cannot kill it.
Init 1 will prolly reinit the process table in mem. Hence the Zombie is no
longer listed.
Tanenbaum (Modern O/S) has some stuff about this....( A neat graph(math
def.) showing all possible states(node) for a process to be in ... plus a
set of transition rules(edges) for NT, Linux and Solaris)
even the doc's that were part of the OS module @ NCST had some stuff abt
this....
