I have the same monitor.
Use H-Sync : 30-50
and V-Sync : 50-120
use xf86config text base config tool instead of
XF86Config/XF86Setup graphical one, which gives u much more
control.
I use this monitor with CLGD5440 2MB and I am able get
1024x760 in 16-bit colours (even vertula res upto 1120x900
or so)

I dont know about SuSE but in RedHat u can use soundconfig
on command line select ur sound card. I have SoundBlaster 16
with AWE64 ISA card in my sys and work like charm.
