Hmmmm .... I don't like the sound of it .... service charges by a Users'
Group?
>Paying up to attend the meeting shouldn't be compulsory.
That's only to take care of Nag's expenses ...
>If the group gets too formalised, we'll just stop bothering about it
>The formalities of a society can hamper our efforts to spread awareness

Agreed, but remember the recent "Aryabhatt" incident? The group had tried
to post a reply to that article. Also from another thread, it is indirectly
our responsibility to help the spread of Linux awareness in Mumbai. Now
such initiatives definitely get a good response if taken by an official
registered body ...
And while formalizing things, we don't need to become members only or
something. This could just be a voluntary contribution for the trouble that
some members take on behalf of the group.
>smaller LUGs around the city.
Satellite LUG's would be really helpful. Since most of this is unofficial
and totally out of a need to interact, there should not be any clashes
about who's hot and who's not! And as far as the ML is concerned, it
doesn't really matter if a linuxer from accross the globe joins in!
>If anyone here is interested, I'm in the New Bombay area.
How about creating pages on the site for each convenient area? Members can
then be categorized according to their addresses and then listed on these
pages ... that way, we can keep track of local members without bothering
about local LUG's
Anyway, the most important matter at hand is the money that we need to
collect for the domain registration ... whatever it is, it should be fixed
instead of calculated on the basis of attendance.
Sameer.
