I had a similar problem; Try editing the xf86config file. I think it's in
/etc/X11/ somehing.
On way to find it is
'find /etc -print | grep "X" | less'
Then edit the file (after making a backup)
What to edit ?
man Xf86config or xf86setup...(can't remember it exactly)
if it still does not work, I can send you my Xf86config file.
