While we are at it. RH inst gave me three options:

1. Server
then it threatened to delete all data in all partitions on my harddisk,
and to format it. so i backed out.

Q1: why the hell Linux server need capture entire m/c? WinNT coolly
stays in its partition without disturbing other ones.

Q2: We need to inst a network card for a server. In a home pc we are
normally not having such card, even then we install server for study
purpose. If we select Ethernet or any such card, after booting up in
winNT, it obviously searches for the card and reports error on not
finding it. one friend told me that there is "WINLOOPBACK" or something
like that, option in NT which simulates a network card without
requiring physical presence of any such card, thus error is not
reported. sounds like NUL i/o redirection option.

Is there any such option in Linux servers.

2. Workstation
then it threatened to reformat all Linux partitions on my harddisk. so
i backed out.

Q3: why can't we have two workstations of different distro of linux on
the same hdd? say, RH is already working, and we install muLinux or SuSE
in other partition to study their features.

3. custom
Here you can select/add/delete partitions at will. druid and linuxFdisk
options are there. i used this.

Q4: Not exactly RH related, but a general query. Is it necessary to keep
LinuxSwap and LinuxNative in adjascent partition? if not necessary, is
it advisable.

Q5: after installation, can i delete LinuxSwap partition and create a
new at a different location?

REMARK: winNT disk administrator (or whatever is the name) is much much
better than druid, linux fdisk and winFdisk for the simple reason that
it graphically shows the entire hard disk and relative position, sizes,
activestatus,
volumelabels of these partitions. which helps a lot in such a deadly
activity. we can do all activities on hd which it keeps in memory, so we
can quit at any time without committing the changes as in druid, it was
not possible
in winFdisk. Though, I have not found option of cyl-no. to cyl-no.
creation of partition in it as is present in LinuxFdisk. if anybody
knows about it, please share with me.
