My verions of tar (GNU tar) 1.13.25 --- packaged with RH9 Command I run is tar czvp -X bkpexclude base libs demo website > bkp.`date +%Y%m%d%H%M%S`.tgz base, libs, demo, website are directories to backup bkpexclude contains base/bin demo/bin website/notimp Amish.
