wonder why techies on this forum debating on taking linux to the people

Politics and Philosophy affects and shapes the technologies.

The wo/man on the street needs an OS that is stable, gets the work done
without much ado and preferably free. Could linuxers focus on this?

Your description of the usability of an OS is already present in most
modern distributions, namely - Ubuntu, Fedora Core, SuSE Linux,
Knoppix etc. We as a community would like to know what is missing in
the existing system so that can be added.

Getting such a hassle-free system on the desktops of people intending to
migrate out of the Windows environment would be the clearest test for
taking Linux to the masses.

This is pure exercise of eduction and training. Many on this list are
already doing this as and when required. We keep on doing
seminars/workshops to spread the awareness of availability of the
completely usable system. :-D
